Léon JOUHAUD, born on December 23, 1874 in Limoges and died in 1950, is a French enameller, painter, watercolorist and pastellist.
Léon Jouhaud studied privately, passed his baccalaureate in 1892 and, fascinated by bacteriology, studied medicine in Limoges, then in Paris. He practiced in his native town from 1903 to 1906, then embarked on an artistic career in the field of enamel, an old local tradition. His early aesthetic, neo-impressionism, evolved towards popular or intimist scenes, with supple or cubist lines and frank colors. He shared with Camille Tharaud many technical developments and produced several porcelain pieces at his home.
Bernard Lachaniette devoted a retrospective of his enamels to him in 1988 in Limoges. A catalog was published on this occasion.
The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Limoges, Palais de L'Évêché, in Limoges has an important collection of his works.
